Memory Blocks: Last Drinks, 2013

Cotton, sugar, plaster

Memories are our impressions of events, of things we have experienced that have left a mark on us. Creating memory blocks is a way to give form to memories, solidifying the charged emotional space surrounding the objects of the memory. The process of solidifying the ephemeral provides a focus for the intangible emotional experience. The outcome of the memory making is a defined physical object that can serve as a totemic expression of the memory: an artefact of resolution.

Memory Blocks: Last Drinks, references the memory of betrayal in an intimate relationship. While meeting for drinks to ‘talk about it’ the memory holder realises that the connection has been irrevocably altered and the relationship is unexpectedly over.
